This unit provides students with an overview of the developmental characteristics of learners and music learning in a one-to-one or small group instrumental/vocal setting. Students develop an understanding of a range of teaching, learning and assessment theories and methodologies relevant to the studio teaching context for individuals and groups.
Lecture/workshops enable students to understand music performance from the points of view of the learner and the teacher. Students develop skills in analysing repertoire in order to plan for teaching it, and an appreciation of a range of learning styles and modalities that students may display. Advocacy for music education, ethical and professional standards are key elements of the unit.
Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.
