DESCRIPTION

Students develop a thorough working knowledge of the instruments in a contemporary (rock ) ensemble, including tuning, maintenance, care, basic performance techniques necessary to engage young learners. A range of individual and group teaching methodologies will be presented and discussed. Method books, digital tuition products and repertoire for early learners will be critically examined. Rehearsal, direction techniques and the development a range of performance opportunities for beginning ensembles are crucial aspects of this unit.

WEIGHT: 12.5%

ASSESSMENT:

Formative: Arranging & Performance detailed plan, due week 3: 10%

Cumulative: Class work engagement, practical activities during workshops: 10%; Performance test (end of semester exam period), 10 mins, 20%

Summative:Materials review, 1500 words, due week 8: 15%; Arranging & Performance assignment, due week10: 20%; Writing assignment, 2,500 words, due week 13: 25%

TEACHING PATTERN: 2hr lecture, 1 hr workshop weekly (13 wks)
