DESCRIPTION
This unit provides economics and business students with basic quantitative techniques that help them to analyse problems in Economics. The emphasis of the unit will not be the development of new techniques but on the application of techniques to a variety of economic problems. To some extent many of the mathematical tools covered will already be familiar to students from TCE Mathematics Applied. Since students will bring different mathematics backgrounds to the unit, there will be a thorough revision of basic concepts and tools as the unit progresses.
WEIGHT: 12.5%
ASSESSMENT: Internal assessment 40%; Final exam 60%.
TEACHING PATTERN: 1 x 2 hour lecture, 1 x 1 hour workshop per week.

Either TCE MAP5C Mathematics Applied, OR a higher level mathematics subject, OR equivalent studies as accepted by the School of Economics and Finance and/or by the Faculty of Business, OR a bridging mathematics unit (either UPP090 or BEA109)
