Provides a foundation in the mathematics of finance and statistical descriptions and analysis, appropriate for the study of and professional practice in business, economics, accounting, finance, management and marketing. The primary emphasis is on understanding the statistical concepts and methods widely used in these disciplines, with a consequent enhancement of numeracy skills and an ability to use both formulae and quantitative computer packages. The focus is on the practical use of data in a business/economic decision making environment, especially in an environment of risk and uncertainty.
WEIGHT: 12.5%
ASSESSMENT: Internal assessment 40%; Final exam 60%.
TEACHING PATTERN: 1 x 2 hour lecture, 1 x 1 hour workshop per week.
Note: starting in the fourth week of Semester 2, non-compulsory tutorials will be organised for students who require additional assistance.

Either TCE MAP5C Mathematics Applied, OR a higher level Mathematics subject OR equivalent studies as accepted by the School of Economics and Finance and/or by the Faculty of Business OR a bridging mathematics unit (Either UPP090 or BEA109)
Units are offered in attending mode unless otherwise indicated (that is attendance is required at the campus identified). A unit identified as offered by distance, that is there is no requirement for attendance, is identified with a nominal enrolment campus. A unit offered to both attending students and by distance from the same campus is identified as having both modes of study.
