The Graduate Certificate in Public Administration (International) is offered at the Hobart campus and by distance. It is normally a 1 semester full-time or up to 2 years (or 2 semesters) part-time program. Students may enrol for semester 1 or semester 2 entry.
These course rules and specifications apply to students commencing the course in 2011. For students who commenced prior to 2011, the applicable course rules are those from the year of commencement. i.e. students who commenced in 2006 should refer to the 2006 Handbook.
Admission & Prerequisites
Students are normally expected to have a minimum of a bachelor degree from the University of Tasmania or from another university or tertiary institution which is deemed equivalent, and a level of English equivalent to a score of 6.0 on an IELTS test. In exceptional circumstances the Faculty may admit a person with some other tertiary qualification and relevant employment experience.
Students seeking entry into postgraduate courses based on employment experience only (i.e. no bachelor degree), will generally only be allowed entry at Graduate Certificate level.
The successful completion of 100% of coursework units with Distinction average is the pre-requisite for undertaking any thesis unit. Students who do not achieve at Distinction level in coursework components, but nonetheless complete 100% of units will be able to exit with a Graduate Diploma.
The Graduate Certificate in Public Administration (International) aims to develop high-level, advanced skills in international public administration for mid-career professionals. Students will be equipped with a detailed understanding of contemporary developments in policy development, program analysis and management. These areas have been to focus of public sector reform around the globe. Students will also increase their skills in public administration, with a particular focus on program and policy management.

Articulation to/from Course
Students who undertake the GradCertPubAdmin (Int) may elect to complete an additional 50% of coursework units and achieve the Graduate Diploma in Public Administration (International). Students who take the additional coursework units plus another 25% course work unit plus the Research Project are eligible to graduate with a Master of Public Administration (International).
Students may apply for credit for units passed in other courses (complete or incomplete).
