Introduction

This course is offered on a full fee paying basis to eligible domestic students. Fees are established per unit and can be found in the unit descriptions within the course schedule. Please note that the Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting is usually only considered as an exit point from the MPA or MPAS and students would not normally enrol in this program.

This is a 12 month full-time or 2 year part-time course of study offered by the School of Accounting and Corporate Governance in the TSBE.

The course involves the completion of 8 units of study. Completion of this course alone does not lead to professional accounting body membership (see Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) and Master of Professional Accounting - Specialisation (MPAS)). This is a fee paying course. All units are subject to formal assessment including the completion of continuous assessment such as assignments, and a final examination.

Admission & Prerequisites

Candidates for the Graduate Diploma shall be qualified for entry if they have:

  1. The equivalent of an undergraduate or masters degree in a non-accounting degree (international applications are subject to assessment for equivalency); OR
  2. A 4 unit Graduate Certificate in Accounting or equivalent from an approved tertiary institution; OR
  3. Approved relevant work experience or other special circumstances (e.g. post secondary qualifications) as approved by the Dean or delegated authority.
For entry into all postgraduate courses, international students must provide an IELTS test score of at least Band 6 with a minimum of 6.0 on all bands or a TOEFL score of 575 with a Test of Written English score of no less than 4.5. At the discretion of the TSBE, admission may also include an interview.

Career Outcomes

The units in this course form part of the MPA and/or MPAS and once the MPA or MPAS is completed and depending on the qualifications of the applicant on entry, offers the opportunity for students to qualify for membership of the professional accounting bodies and then to pursue professional year studies with these bodies.
