These course rules and specifications apply to students commencing the BA(Hons) in 2013. For students who commenced prior to 2013, the applicable course rules are those from the year of commencement. i.e. students who commenced in 2010 should refer to the 2010Handbook.
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) requires one year of full-time study, or a maximum of three years part-time study, the equivalent of 8 x 12.5% units of the relevant level.
A candidate for the degree must pursue either a single course of study in one honours program, or a joint course of study in two honours programs.
The programs that may be studied as single honours courses are those listed in the schedule that follows. Unless exempted by the Faculty, a candidate may not enrol in the Honours course in a program listed unless the corresponding prerequisite requirements have been obtained.
Joint honours courses consist of such combinations of the programs listed in the schedule as Faculty may from time to time approve. A candidate may not enrol in a joint honours course unless permitted to do so by the Faculty on the recommendation of the two program directors concerned. Candidates must either have passed the prerequisite units prescribed in the schedule for both the proposed programs or have otherwise satisfied the two program directors that they are sufficiently qualified to undertake the joint course.
Candidates undertake a program comprising a number of coursework units and either a 50% research thesis or an approved practical project of 25%. Candidates should consult individual program entries for full details.
