Specification

1 In these specifications 'Faculty' means the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology.

Entry

2 Faculty may, on the recommendation of the head of department, accept as a candidate for the Graduate Diploma of Computing a person who has qualified for a bachelor degree of the University of Tasmania which does not include a major in computing, or holds a degree or other tertiary qualifications deemed to be equivalent.
3 Candidates for the Graduate Diploma shall complete the requirements, as here prescribed, in not less than one year of full-time study (or its equivalent) and in not more than five consecutive years.

Course structure

4 To satisfy the requirements for the Graduate Diploma, a candidate shall complete successfully a total eight units.
5 [i] In every case the candidate's choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval or waiver by the dean. Before seeking the dean's approval a candidate shall have the selection of units approved by the head of school.
[ii] Where two or more units of similar content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the Graduate Diploma.

Credit for previous studies

6 Passes in subjects or units in other courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the Graduate Diploma.

Miscellaneous

7 [i] These specifications shall take effect on 1 January 1998 and shall apply to all candidates for the Graduate Diploma, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently and to any candidates who, having commenced their studies for the Graduate Diploma of Applied Computing prior to that date, have not passed in any units towards the degree by that date.
[ii] Candidates who have passed in units towards the Graduate Diploma of Applied Computing under the specifications in force prior to 1 January 1998 will be entitled either to transfer to the Graduate Diploma of Computing with full equivalent credit, or to graduate in accordance with that degree specification operating at the time of their admission to candidature.
8 The approved abbreviation for the Graduate Diploma of Computing shall be GradDipComp.
