In these specifications 'Faculty' means the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology.
The course for the degree of Bachelor of Science with Honours shall be in one of the fields as listed in Schedule A.
Candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Science with honours require the approval of Faculty and shall have qualified for admission to the degree of Bachelor of Science at this University or another approved tertiary institution.
A candidate for the degree must submit a thesis on work undertaken as part of the honours course. The requirements for the degree may also include examinations or other assessments as prescribed by Faculty.
Every candidate other than one whom Faculty may exempt from this condition shall complete the requirements for the degree --
within a specified period provided that the maximum period shall not exceed 12 months from the date of commencement.
Faculty may extend the maximum period to 24 months in the case of a part-time candidate.
The dean or representative of the dean may grant an extension of time to a candidate who has been prevented by illness or other serious cause from Completing the requirements of the course within the period prescribed in these specifications.
A candidate who has succeeded in obtaining honours in any one field may be permitted to proceed to honours in any other field from the list given in these specifications. In such case, the candidate shall satisfy the full requirements of these specifications in the second field of study.
Candidates for the degree may be required to acquire such knowledge in one or two foreign languages as are deemed necessary for research in the candidate's field of specialisation.
Except by special permission of Faculty, there shall be no re-examination for honours in any one Subject.
The classes of honours shall be First Class, Second Class, and Third Class. There shall be an upper and lower division in the second class.
The approved abbreviation for the Bachelor of Science with Honours shall be BSc(Hons).
