1 In these specifications 'Faculty' means the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology.


2 The Faculty may accept as a candidate for the Master of Information Systems a person who has qualified for a bachelor degree from an accredited tertiary institution.

3 Candidates for the degree shall complete the requirements, as herein prescribed, in not less than 1 year of full-time study (or its equivalent) and in not more than sixyears, from time of first enrolment.

Course structure

4 To qualify for the degree, the candidate shall satisfactorily complete a course of study prescribed by the Faculty. A candidate shall:

[i] Satisfactorily complete the consolidation component (50% of Intermediate/Advanced undergraduate Information Systems units) if required;

[ii] Satisfactorily complete eight postgraduate Information Systems units (100%);

[iii] Upon obtaining an average grade of creditor better in the eight Information Systems postgraduate units and with the approval of the Head of School, students can complete a Research Methods unit (25%) and an MIS project (75%) if desired;

[iv] The candidate may not count any Terminating Passes.

5 [i] An individual program of study will be agreed between each candidate and the dean or representative of the dean upon entry to the course.

ii] A candidate normally may not enrol in any year in units totalling more than 100% weighting, or if the candidate is in full-time employment during any given semester, more than 50% weighting.

Credit for previous studies

6 Passes in subjects or units in other courses (completed or otherwise) in this University or another approved tertiary institution (or other approved professional examining body) may be credited towards the degree, provided that the Faculty may specify what more a candidate shall be required to do to qualify for the degree.


7 The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to the schedules to these specifications.

8 These specifications shall take effect from 1 January 2012 and shall apply to all candidates for the course, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently.

9 Candidates who have passed units towards the course under specifications in force prior to 1 January 2012 will be entitled to follow these specifications with full equivalent credit or graduate in accordance with those specifications operating at the time of their admission to candidature. Should any difficulty arise for a candidate previously enrolled because of any difference between course requirements and units offered under these specifications and those previously in force, the Faculty shall ensure that the candidate is not materially disadvantaged by these specifications.

10 The approved abbreviation for the degree of Master of Information Systems shall be MIS.
