1 [i] In these specifications 'Faculty' means the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology, 'dean' means the dean of the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology.
[ii] Candidates for the Graduate Diploma in Information Management must have completed a Bachelor degree or equivalent, at an approved tertiary institution.
2 Candidates for the diploma shall complete the diploma requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than one year of full-time study (or its equivalent part time) and not more than three years, from the time of first enrolment.

Course structure

3 [i] To qualify for the diploma, the candidate shall pass 8 units comprising a required core in one of the areas of
(a) Teacher Librarianship: 7 core units and 1 elective unit;
(b) General Librarianship: 6 core units and 2 elective units; or
(c) Information Management: 6 core units and 2 elective units.
[ii] The units which may be included in a course for the diploma shall, unless otherwise approved by the dean, be in accordance with Schedule A, accompanying these specifications.
4 [i] Units may be counted towards the diploma only if they have been taken in accordance with prerequisites determined by the Faculty and as summarised in Schedule A.
[ii] A candidate normally may not enrol in any year in units totalling more than 100% weighting (8 units), or if the candidate is in full-time employment during any given semester more than 50% (4 units) weighting.
[iii] Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University only one may be counted towards the diploma.
[iv] In every case the candidate's choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval by the dean in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 3.

Credit for previous studies

5 Students will be granted credit for relevant and appropriate, previous studies when applying for admission to the diploma.


6 The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to the schedules to these specifications.
7 These specifications, shall take effect on I January 2003 and shall apply to all candidates for the diploma, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently.
8 The approved abbreviation for the diploma of Graduate Diploma in Information Management shall be GradDipInfoMgt.
