Specification

Entry

1 In these specifications 'Faculty'- means the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology.The Faculty may accept as a candidate for the Graduate Certificate of Information Systems a person who has either:
(a) Completed an undergraduate degree of an Australian higher education institution, or equivalent standard institution; or
(b) Who is not a graduate, but whose demonstrated IT competencies and relevant professional experience of seven years-- standing indicate a level of knowledge and skill comparable to those of graduates in similar circumstances.
2 Candidates for the Certificate shall complete the Certificate requirements, as hereinafter prescribed, in not less than one semester of full-time study (or its equivalent part-time) and not more than two years, from the time of first enrolment.

Course structure

3 To qualify for the Certificate, the candidate shall pass 4 units chosen from Schedule A.
4 [i] Units may be counted towards the Certificate only if they have been taken in accordance with prerequisites determined by the Faculty and as summarised in Schedule A.
[ii] A candidate normally may not enrol in any year in units totalling more than 100% weighting, or if the candidate is in full-time employment during any given semester, more than 50% weighting.
[iii] Where two or more units of the same name or content are offered within the University, only one may be counted towards the Certificate.
[iv] In every case the candidate's choice of units and the order in which they are taken shall be subject to approval by the dean of Commerce, in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 3.

Credit for previous studies

5 Students will not be granted credit for previous studies when applying for admission to the Certificate.

Miscellaneous

6 The Faculty may from time to time make amendments to the schedules to these specifications.
7 These specifications shall take effect on 1 January 2003 and shall apply to all candidates for the Certificate, including those enrolling for the first time in that year and those enrolled subsequently.
8 The approved abbreviation for the Certificate of Graduate Certificate of Information Systems shall be GradCertIS. The approved abbreviation for the Certificate of Graduate Certificate of Information Systems shall be GradCertIS.
