These course rules and specifications apply to students commencing the course in 2012. For students who commenced prior to 2012, the applicable course rules are those from the year of commencement. i.e. students who commenced in 2006 should refer to the 2006 Handbook.

Admission & Prerequisites

Normal admission requirement are:

  • a Bachelor of Arts degree or its equivalent from the University of Tasmania; or
  • a university degree from another university or tertiary institution, deemed to be appropriate by the Faculty of Arts; or
  • candidates not holding a bachelor's degree but whose employment experience indicates a level of knowledge and skill deemed by the Faculty to be sufficient to complete the course satisfactorily may be deemed eligible for admission.

Course Objectives

Graduate Certificate in Arts (Specialisation) (R5W)

It is intended that, upon completion of this course, students will:

1. Have developed a strong theoretical and practical understanding of the discipline.
2. Have acquired a strong foundation in and in-depth knowledge and skills of the discipline.
3. Be able to engage critically with the discipline.


Articulation to/from Course

Students who have satisfactorily completed the requirements for the Graduate Certificate in Arts (Specialisation) may proceed to the Graduate Diploma in Arts (Specialisation). Where specialisations permit, students who satisfactorily complete the requirements for the Graduate Diploma may then proceed to the Master of Arts (Specialisation).

Where specialisations permit, students will have the opportunity to undertake 12.5% or 25% of internship units (subject to negotiation with the course co-ordinator) as part of the Graduate Diploma. The maximum percentage of internship units able to be counted to the Graduate Diploma is 25%.

Credit
Credit may be given, at the discretion of the Faculty, for previous postgraduate or honours level study, or alternative achievements by students in other awards and professional practice areas at equivalent level.
