Introduction
The Diploma of Fine Art and Design offers the opportunity to either explore or continue study in fine arts and design through studio based learning.
Admission & Prerequisites
Applicants are normally expected to have satisfied the University's admission requirements, or be undertaking a practically orientated pre-tertiary Visual Arts or Design subject or TAFE certificate.
Applicants who do not meet these requirements may be asked to submit a folio consisting of no more that ten photographs, drawings, paintings or electronic images of work and a statement outlining their interest in the course
Course Objectives
This course will give you entry into visual art education at a tertiary level, either by the exploration of a broad range of introductory or intermediate units, or where you have a relevant existing degree study within a specific studio to an advanced level.
This program introduces the following areas for study
Visual thinking: the ability to analyse and discuss images, form and experience
Visual, verbal and written expression
Self expression
Creative problem solving
Generating and evaluating a range of ideas
Ability to research and acquire new technical skills as required for visual problem solving.
Awareness and global perspective of the role and function of visual art and design in contemporary culture.
Articulation to/from Course
On successful completion of the award students may apply for 100% articulation to the Bachelor of Fine Arts / Bachelor of Visual Communication where their study is consistent with the degree rules and schedule, if the Diploma has not been taken concurrently with that degree.
Students who are pursuing concurrent study in both the Diploma and either a bachelor or postgraduate degree, could receive credit to the maximum value of 25% (2x12.5%) toward the main degree*, subject to successfully passing units in the Diploma; unless otherwise stated by the coordinator of the relevant degree (undergraduate or postgraduate).
* Provided that the discipline taken in the Diploma is the same or similar as the discipline pursuing in the main Bachelor or Postgraduate degree; as determined by the course coordinator.
