Introduction
The 4-year full-time combined degree of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Business is offered on the Launceston and Hobart campuses by the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Business. A restricted program is available at the Cradle Coast Campus. For further information, contact the Faculty of Business or the Faculty of Arts.
These course rules and specifications apply to students commencing thecourse in 2012. For students who commenced prior to 2012, the applicable course rules are those from the year of commencement. i.e. students who commenced in 2006 should refer to the 2006 Handbook.
Admission & Prerequisites
BACHELOR OF ARTS COMPONENT
Applicants are expected to meet the normal requirements set by the University for entry to degree courses. There are also several categories of special admission. No specific course or subject prerequisites apply.
BACHELOR OF BUSINESS COMPONENT
Possession of the University's basic admission requirements. While no prerequisites apply for the degree, students who have not successfully completed TCE MAP5C Mathematics Applied, or, an approved equivalent unit, or, a higher level Mathematics subject, are required to complete either KMA003 Mathematics Foundation Unit, UPP090 Bridging Maths, or, BEA109 Introduction to Quantitative Methods, before enrolling in BEA140 Quantitative Methods. International students who do not have TCE MAP5C Mathematics Applied, or an equivalent, or a higher level Mathematics subject and who are therefore required to undertake a mathematics bridging program may only take BEA109. Students who have completed a diploma or an advanced diploma in a business related discipline from an Australian institute of TAFE may receive credit towards the degree.
Faculty also offers direct credit for its awards. For example, a BEc student wishing to transfer to the BBus with credit and vice versa receives direct credit. Applicants wishing to obtain credit for study already undertaken within another faculty, or at an Australian or overseas tertiary institution, should consult the Admission Guide for information on procedure.
In the case of international students, credit for previous tertiary study will be determined on application.
Depending on the course of study and the majors chosen, students may not be able to use all of the credit that has been granted, for example, credit for unspecified electives. The status of individual units is determined at the time of offer.
English language skills will also need to be verified. International students must provide an IELTS score with an overall Band of 6 and no band less than 5.5; or a TOEFL score of 550 with a Test of Written English score of no less than 4.5. The test must not be more than 24 months old.

Course Objectives
The objectives of the combined degree are:
to complement traditional studies in humanities and social sciences with a wide range of management, accounting, marketing and business skills;
to broaden the opportunities of Business students to undertake studies in languages and area studies.
Career Outcomes
Graduates of the combined Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Business degree could expect to obtain employment in such areas asaccounting, finance, international business, human resource or personnel management, marketing, journalism and public relations, government and teaching.

Bachelor of Business (Honours)
The Bachelor of Business (Honours) degree in the fields of Accounting, Corporate Governance or Management (incorporating Business Management, Human Resource Management, International Business, Marketing and Tourism) requires one year of full-time study in addition to the requirements for a pass degree from the Faculty of Business or one of the combined business degrees. Students with a major in Information Systems in the BBus degree or a combined business degree who wish to complete an Information System Honours degree should contact the School of Computing and Information Systems for further details.
