Introduction
The Graduate Diplomaof Environmental Management is specifically designed for those with a tertiary qualification, who wish to gain a first qualification in Environmental Management. It is appropriate for those wishing to make a career change to an environmental management area, for those wishing to combine environmentally based skills with their current specialisation, or for those who wish to increase their knowledge out of interest. The course provides a broad, interdisciplinary approach to environmental management, and articulates with the Master of Environmental Management.
Admission & Prerequisites
Australian Bachelor's degree in any discipline, preferably at credit level or better, or other tertiary qualifications deemed by the University to be equivalent.
Course Objectives
Students will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge of natural and cultural values; approaches to managing ecosystems; the social, cultural and institutional contexts in which environments are managed; and methods used to address issues associated with biodiversity conservation and sustainability. Emphasis is placed on problem based learning and integrating contributions from the biophysical and social sciences. Practical and field-based activities are important parts of the courses.
Career Outcomes
The course can lead to positions in conserving and managing natural, rural and urban environments. People with expertise in environmental management are sought after by local, state and federal governments; community organisations and private consulting firms.
Articulation to/from Course
The Graduate Diploma fully articulates into the Master of Environmental Management (S7D). Candidates who complete the Graduate Diploma requirements can progress on to the Masters by completing a 50% thesis. A grade of Credit (CR) or better must be achieved in at least a 50% of coursework units in order for a student to proceed to the Masters.
