Admission & Prerequisites
The prerequisite for this course is a BBiotechMedRes (73S) degree at this University orequivalent qualification at another approved tertiary institution. Candidates would normally be expected to obtain at least a credit average in their third year units. Candidature is subject to appropriate supervision being available for the thesis topic approved by the relevant Faculty and subject to satisfying the prerequisites required for the chosen field of study.
Course Objectives
This course will extend the BBiotechMedRes course to provide a year's training in research, through the opportunity to participate in an in-depth research project and other research-relevant activities. This experience will equip them with advanced knowledge, skills, competencies and awareness in preparation for careers in biomedical research, biotechnology and related areas. They will have learned to access and critically evaluate scientific literature, and gained substantial practical experience in the application of relevant experimental design principles, experimental techniques, and approaches to data analysis and presentation. They will also gain experience in communication of research results through preparation of a written thesis and oral presentations. They will also gain a broader understanding of important approaches and issues in contemporary biotechnology and medical research.
