Introduction
The Graduate Diploma of Professional Music Practice focuses on the acquisition and structured development of music performance at a level consistent with the expectations and requirements of professional music practice. The program is for highly gifted musicians who wish to pursue a dedicated period of study with an emphasis on repertoire and ensemble performance excellence as a means to develop high-level attributes in artistic expression.
Course Objectives
The educational objectives of this course are to provide high-achieving performance students the opportunity to spend a year focussed exclusively on activities that are essential for those desiring a performance career. The core units of study are performance based and focus on the development of critical skills and self-reflection in solo and ensemble settings. In addition to individual or ensemble tuition, the units of study in this course require regular and dedicated periods of effective personal practice and preparation. Students will develop acute awareness of ensemble integrity and achieve self-actualization through feedback from ensemble directors, tutors and individual lessons honing critical reflective skills
The assessment of learning needs to allow students to demonstrate their ability to communicate through their chosen instrument. Music performers work with sound to create affect in real time. In real time, intentions have little impact: performers must make the moment work and this can only be assessed in performance.
Articulation to/from Course
Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate in Music (Performance) or the Graduate Certificate in Music (Orchestral Studies) may articulate with full credit into the Graduate Diploma of Professional Music Practice.
Students who complete the Graduate Diploma of Professional Music Practice may be granted 87.5% credit into the Master of Music Studies.
