Introduction

Bachelor of Music with Honours is a 1-year (minimum) full-time course with specialisation in Performance, Composition or Musicology.

These course rules and specifications apply to students commencing the BMus(Hons) in 2007. For students who commenced prior to 2007, the applicable course rules are those from the year of commencement. i.e. students who commenced in 2004 should refer to the 2004 Handbook.

Admission & Prerequisites

Entry to the Honours program is by invitation or formal application. Candidates are expected to have a good academic record, and to have satisfied minimum criteria as either: successful completion of a Pass degree in Music with high achievement in the area of specialisation and grades of Credit or better in other level 300 units; or demonstrate equivalent professional attainment.

Course Objectives

The program emphasises the need for a spirit of excellence and a strong sense of independent inquiry. Candidates should have a strong commitment to the implications of their research for music practice.

Career Outcomes

Graduates of the Bachelor of Music with Honours are engaged at all levels of the music profession, both in Australia and overseas. They enjoy successful careers as performers, teachers and administrators, or may be involved in broadcasting, journalism or as music critics.
