Introduction
This four-year (minimum), 9-year (maximum), internal full-time or part-time course is offered at the Hobart campus and the first year at the Launceston campus.
Admission & Prerequisites
BEc Component: In addition to meeting the University's basic admission requirements, applicants must have passed TCE MAP5C Mathematics Applied, or an equivalent unit, or, a higher level Mathematics subject as accepted by the School of Economics and Finance and/or by the Faculty of Business.
Students returning to study either after a long absence and/or new students, who have the mathematics prerequisite but who lack confidence in their quantitative skills should enrol in one of the following units
KMA003 Mathematics Foundation Unit,
UPP090 Bridging Maths or
BEA109 Introduction Quantitative Methods before enrolling in
BEA140 Quantitative Methods. International students who have the mathematics prerequisite but who lack confidence in their quantitative skillsand who would like to undertake a mathematics bridging programme may only take

Applicants who do not have the mathematics prerequisite but who wish to enrol for a Bachelor of Economics should consult the Faculty Office 1800 030 955 concerning a pathway into this degree.
Students who have completed a diploma or an advanced diplomain a business related discipline from an Australian institute of TAFE, and have been admitted to the course may receive credit towards the degree.
Faculty also offers direct credit for its awards. For example, a BBus student wishing to transfer to the BEc with credit and vice versa receives direct credit. Applicants wishing to obtain credit for study already undertaken within another faculty, or an Australian or overseas tertiary institution should consult the Admission Guide for information on procedure.
In the case of international students, credit for previous study will be determined on application.
Depending on the course of study and the majors chosen, students may not be able to use all of the credit that has been granted, for example, credit for unspecified electives. The status of individual units is determined at the time of offer.

English language skills will also need to be verified. International students must provide an IELTS score with an overall Band of 6 and no band less than 5.5; or a TOEFL score of 550 with a Test of Written English score of no less than 4.5. Course Objectives
The BComp-BEc combined degree program provides graduates with computing skills to enhance a career in central, commercial or merchant banking; government; management; market research; or stockbroking, for example. Alternatively the Economics qualification process a excellent skill base for a diverse range of careers in Information Technology.
In addition, to the objectives of the Bachelor of Computing program, the Bachelor of Economics component aims to:
* produce well educated and adaptable graduate with appropriate knowledge and professional skills to meet the existing needs and demands of employment in industry, commerce, banking and public administration or the more specialized fields of professional or research economics.
Students returning to study after a long absence and/or new students lacking confidence in their quantitative skills should enroll in the unit
BEA109 Introduction to Quantitative Methods or
UPP090 Bridging Mathematics. The major objective of the unit is to remove any Maths phobia experienced by first year students and along the way to provide a first acquaintance of business study applications of these techniques. The unit leads gently into the elementary aspects of BEA140 Quantitative Methods.

Articulation to/from Course
Credits for units included in the schedules for the BEc and BComp will be awarded to students who transfer to the combined degree.
If students have completed the TAFE Diploma of Information Technology they may be granted up to four units advanced standing in the Bachelor of Computing.
The BComp articulates into the S4D Bachelor of Computing with Honours.
Professional Recognition
It is anticipated that this combined degree will be recognised by the professional bodies that recognised the programs in the BComp and BEc.
