The Associate Degree in Engineering (Mechanical) allows Advanced Diploma Mechanical students to upgrade their professional qualifications on a part-time basis while working in the North-West area of the state. On completion of the Associate Degree, students will be able to articulate to the Bachelor of Engineering Technology and then, the Bachelor of Engineering.
The Associate Degree in Engineering (Mechanical) is a two-year program but TAFE Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering students will normally attract up to five (out of 16) units of credit.
Admission & Prerequisites
Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification completed within the last ten years. Students will be required to pass the Maths Foundation unit KMA003 as a condition of enrolment in the Associate Degree program, or to demonstrate an equivalent recent qualification.
The course will build on the engineering skills acquired in Advanced Diploma programs. It aims to further develop the analytical skills required to undertake more complex Engineering investigations and to provide a seamless articulation path into the accredited BEngTech program for students who wish to continue their studies.
While the proposed Associate Degree does not align with a current Engineers Australia accreditation level and will not lead per se to an accredited qualification, the general aims of the program are consistent with Engineers Australia graduate attributes for the BEngTech program, and in summary are:
to provide a sound basis in engineering science and specific theory and practice in one of the specialised engineering fields, to a level whereby graduates will be able to take greater advantage of higher level job opportunities;
to produce well-rounded graduates with the ability to successfully plan and manage Engineering projects, and undertake prescribed Engineering tasks using established methods under the supervision of a professional engineer;
to imbue a high level of analytical, problem solving and communication skills and an ability to act as an agent of change in a framework of societal values.
Articulation to/from Course
Graduates from the Associate Degree will have the pre-requisites necessary to proceed directly to the BEngTech and if that qualification is successfully completed, will be eligible to apply for the BE program.
