Introduction

The Associate Degree (Education Support) is a two-year course intended to provide an educational qualification for Teacher Aides/School Support Officers/Home Schooling parents, and for those students wishing to exit from the four-year pre-service teaching degrees, Bachelor of Education (Primary) and Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood). The program will be offered internally at Launceston and Cradle Coast campuses, full time or part time, and by distance/on-line Hobart, Launceston, Cradle Coast, Interstate, Isolated and Offshore.

Admission & Prerequisites

The Faculty of Education will accept as a candidate for the Associate Degree (Education Support) any of the following: (i) A person who currently working as an integration Aide, School Support Officer or Teacher Aide, or equivalent in a classroom setting (ii) A person who is working as a volunteer in a school in a classroom setting (iii) A person who currently provide's Home schooling.

Career Outcomes

Graduates will be highly sought in education careers other than teaching in particular in a classroom setting as Integration Aides, Teacher Aides, and School Support Officers. Graduates will also be highly sought after in the industry training sector, and will be suited to communication-based jobs, public relations and other sectors that value graduates with well-developed problem-solving, communication and critical thinking skills.


Articulation to/from Course

Students exiting with the Associate Degree (Education Support) with previous study from the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) and Bachelor of Education (Primary) course at the University of Tasmania will be granted credit in accordance with sections 4.3.1 and 4.3.2 of Rule 3 Rules of Admission and Student Progress.

Miscellaneous Information

The Associate Degree (Education Support) is available to students currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) and Bachelor of Education (Primary) who choose to exit. please note that specific Associate Degree (Education Support) units will be required to be completed for those students transferring from a Bachelor of Education.

Students must be currently employed (in either a paid or voluntary capacity) as a teacher/integration aide, school support officer or be home-schooling.
