DESCRIPTION
Logic is the theory of good reasoning, and philosophers are interested in it for that reason. This unit introduces students to the logics that much philosophy and work in formal sciences (such as linguistics or computer science) is based on. Students will be introduced to a variety of powerful methods of testing the validity of arguments and constructing valid arguments themselves; the unit also explores some of the philosophical worries and paradoxes that logic give rise to.

It is designed both for those interested in the nature of reasoning and for those with a practical need for formal logic in their studies.
